PA-002-19 | Feb. 27, 2019

QUONSET, RI —

QUONSET, RI – More than 100 Rhode Island National Guard (RING) Airmen from the 143d Airlift Wing deployed to a forward operating base in Southwest Asia this week in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel (OFS).

The Airmen departed from Quonset Air National Guard Base, North Kingstown, RI on February 26th and included personnel from a cross-section of operational, support and maintenance specialties.

This package is part of a larger group of Rhode Island deployments supporting OFS as more than 300 individual men and women of the 143d will mobilize through the remainder of the year.  While deployed, the 143d elements will be providing rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America’s armed forces.

“The men and women of the 143d are the best at what they do. They are highly trained and bring significant operational experience to the mission,” said Brigadier General Arthur Floru, Director of the Joint Staff for the Rhode Island National Guard. “We look forward to the safe return of our Airmen following their successful deployment.”

The exact number of people and aircraft, as well as individual timeline specifics for the deployments are not being released for operational security reasons.
