Quonset, RI —
The Rhode Island National Guard is proud to announce the
United States Air Force Thunderbirds will be headlining the 2020 Open House
Air Show at Quonset, Air National Guard Base, North Kingstown, R.I.
The Thunderbirds have served as the United States Air Force's premier air
demonstration squadron since 1953. They perform in six F-16C Fighting
Falcons and two F-16D Fighting Falcons, based out of Nellis Air Force Base,
Las Vegas, Nevada. While the Thunderbirds are primarily an aerial
demonstration team, they are part of USAF combat forces and can be
integrated into an operational fighter unit if needed.
In addition to the change in performers, the date has also changed to
accommodate the headlining act. The 2020 Rhode Island Open House Air Show
will be moved to 20-21 June, 2020. This is a change from the previously
announced dates of 27-28 June, 2020. Due to the date change, the F-22 Raptor
Demo Team will no longer be performing. An updated line up of performers is
to be released.
"The Rhode Island National Guard is looking forward to opening our gates to
display the talents and capabilities of our amazing Airmen and Soldiers,"
said Lt. Col. Christopher N. Allen a RING Open House director. "We also
welcome the opportunity to host the fabulous military and civilian aerobatic
acts. We can't wait to see everyone for a safe and exciting Father's Day
weekend with the RING!"
